With my job I do get to travel a bit from time to time and a chance to go up to Whangarei for work was eagerly taken! The city is very similar to the city I grew up in except it resides North of Auckland. I grew up in Nelson which is the top of the South Island.

There are a couple of lakes missing from this list that one day I will hopefully try and visit so I can update this to be a bit more complete, but as they say, good things take time! So with that said, lets get straight into it. The first 3 lakes are all very close together and can be accessed by Tarawera Road. Rotorua has a well earned reputation as a top tourist spot and with 18 lakes located in the region and all very close to each other, its reputation is well deserved. This all happened thanks to some major eruptions thousands of years ago that shaped the region and made it the geothermal hotspot it is today. There is a ton of history to be learned in the region but that is best left to others, instead, I am going to take a short look at some of the main lakes located in the region with some key features and some novice drone shots. Looking for a summer getaway? Want to feel that seaside breeze and enjoy the sand and sun? Sound like a TripAdvisor advert yet? Well this ain’t no advert but I can tell you right now, this spot is legit and after spending a couple of days here, I was fully relaxed and recharged ready to hit the year running again. Bledisloe Holiday Park located in Maketu, in-between Tauranga and Whakatane in the Bay Of Plenty has one of the best locations I have seen for a holiday park. The great thing about living in Rotorua is everything is such a short drive away and the Bay of Plenty Region is full of amazing things to see and do. After settling down to work, I took a couple of weekends to drive around and check out some of the close by local attractions, the first 2 I am going to highlight are Okere Falls and Kerosene Creek. Well since Covid has gone and ruined travel plans for most of us in 2020 and for the foreseeable future, I am one of the lucky few in the world who happens to live in a country where travel is very much on the cards and I intend to make the most of that by exploring this lovely country of mine. Instead of my usual hotel rooms and swimming pools in big cities, I am trading that in for a tent and camping grounds around NZ. That is not to say I am going to be roughing it in anyway at all, I am a digital traveler after all, comfort is required! I won’t be able to go camping every weekend but instead will be aiming to head out once a month or so. NZ has the habit of remaining relatively the same over long periods of time with only small changes appearing, a stark contrast to a city like Seoul which is constantly changing and changing fast.
